Traditional teachings on the path of the curandero

For aspiring healers who feel called by Ayahuasca, the Foundation seeks to help them find their way to their teacher in the most efficient and comfortable way possible. There are more and more curanderos and curanderas taking apprentices from other parts of the world, for they realize the importance of effecting change in the cultures that seem to have lost their way. On this page you will find information pertaining the current apprenticeship opportunities available in and around Iquitos, Peru.

DON GUILLERMO
At a new camp much further out in the jungle than his retreat center, don Guillermo will be offering an amazing apprenticeship program, in the traditional shipibo style. This well respected healer emphasizes the importance of staying true to the tradition, not to cut corners, but to take each step one at a time, following the process the way it has been followed from generation to generation for millenia. The lineage should not be altered due to western influence, but maintained regardless of who is learning it.

DON JUAN
A mestizo curandero living close to town, don Juan is currently building a new center further in the jungle where he will be teaching students in the tradition of his various teachers, particularly the Achuar Indians, with whom he studied for many years, and still works with on occasion. Don Juan is an amazing singer, and a highly respected ayahuasquero with a great sense of humor.

DON LUCHO
A member of the Cocama tribe, don Lucho learned directly from the plants, and works primarily with strict plant diets and inward searching. He doesn't teach as much as guide students to the teachers who taught him, the plant teachers, and the ancestors. He works with vibrations and connecting with the vibration of the earth and the plants.

DONA OTHELIA
With an intimate connection with the spirit world at all times, this powerful woman uses her intuition to divine a diagnosis and understand the past, present, and future of a patient. She is well versed in the extraction of essential oils from plants and at making creams and lotions for the health of the skin and hair. Her knowledge of plants is extensive, and she often has a patient staying at her jungle lodge far from the city of Iquitos.

DON PERCY
At a very comfortable camp far from Iquitos, don Percy lives, heals, and teaches many people from around the world. He is a young mestizo curandero who integrates many new forms of healing from other countries and cultures. Don Percy is a pioneer of a new form of curanderismo firmly rooted in the Amazon tradition, but open to adding the wisdom of other powerful cultural traditions.
