THE AMAZON RAINFOREST
There is no place like the Amazon. It is the largest rainforest in the world, with the largest river in the world flowing through it, the greatest diversity on earth living within it, and the largest number of indigenous cultures still living in harmony with it. It is like the ocean in its immense size and power. It humbles everyone who enters, and humility is an important aspect to curanderismo, and to life. It is foolish to think that we do anything ourselves, and life in the rainforest is a constant reminder that we are blessed to have made it through another day, to have been provided with the nourishment we need, and to be protected through the night.
The modern world is everywhere, even in the Amazon. It is sometimes troubling to contemplate the fact that our culture is destroying this beautiful and magical rainforest, yet it is because of this that we can visit this wonderful paradise and meet these amazing teachers. It is a good example of the yin and yang of life, how the darkness brings the light.
The most powerful quality of the rainforest is its natural rhythm. Life here follows a pace that is in harmony with the rest of nature and the sun and the stars. Food here comes directly from the forest to the market. Fish are caught with poles in the morning...
