THE BORAS
The Bora tribe live near the Colombian border but have recently set up a community of around 200 people near the city of Iquitos, off the Rio Momon. Rafael and his son will talk about the history of their ancestors, how they came to be called the Boras, and how life has changed for them due to western influence. They will describe their philosophy on life, their relationships to the plants and animals, and their vision for the future. Rafael will demonstrate his native tongue and explain what is being done to preserve the traditions of the Bora culture, so that Bora children will continue to live as Boras, keeping its priciples of wisdom intact, even if they live and work in a modern society.

Rafael will describe the traditional preparation of Coca that is still practiced today, and will discuss the use of plant medicines and healing ceremonies to keep the tribe healthy. A group of the Boras will then demonstrate their traditional music and dance in a special performance, before answering questions from the seminar participants. There will also be hand-made Bora crafts and jewelry for sale at the seminar.
